Welcome to Little Forest School on the Green

Set in the beautiful picturesque village of Walton on the Hill, The Little Forest School on the Green sits on the green in front of the giant oak tree alongside St Peters Church. A nursery school for over 30 years, the nursery evolved into a Forest School 8 years ago after the staff team discovered the huge benefits of learning in the natural environment. Surrounded by Sandyhill Woods and Walton Heath, children experience the joys of learning outside all year round. Little Forest School on the Green has space for 26 children everyday between the ages of 2 to 5 years. Our school is a safe and secure environment with access to beautiful woodland areas where exploration and adventure can take place. We take a holistic approach to learning by introducing children to outdoor wild play, this is called ‘’forest school’’ and its philosophy is to equip young children with an education that encourages an appreciation of the natural world. Through regular visits to local woodland areas, the children enjoy hands-on learning experiences. We are registered with Ofsted Early Years and comply with the Children Act 1989 and 2004 regulations.

We have a small enclosed garden area for play and the use of bikes, balls and other outdoor equipment. Children wear waterproof clothing, so they have free flow access to the garden in all weathers and to wear when learning outdoors in the surrounding woodlands.

We have one large main room for children of all ages to explore and investigate the resources and activities on offer in our home-from-home environment. We have a smaller kitchen room for messy play and cooking activities.

The nursery school welcomes children from all cultural and religious backgrounds. There is no selection procedure; children are accepted in order of registration. We operate an ‘open door policy’, whereby parents and carers are welcomed into the school any time to see what their children are doing and to help with daily activities both in the setting and out in the woodland.

We are open 9-3, 38 weeks of the year.
